Abstract
four trials of external quality assessment in diagnostic hematology were carried out in 1994. The number of participants were 314 to 327, about 8.3% increase as compared with the preceding year, and the reply rates were 75.7 to 86.5% which were
much the
same as those of recent several years. Automated blood cell counters were used in 96.2% to 98.0% of laboratories for routine CBC including platelet count which were much the same as those of preceding year. Still the most popular counters were
Coulter
counters. CBC results showed relatively acceptable variances. The variances of reticulocyte count were increased compared with the preceding year. White cell differential count was reliable and the ability to discriminate immature leukocytes such
as
blasts was similar to the preceding year. About 10% of results were needed to be continuously educated for blood cell morphology. Statistics were performed with special program 'HQC' which was made of MS-FoxPro. In conclusion, participants of
Korean
External Quality Assessment Scheme for hematology has been continuously increased. the performance of quality assessment appeared to be gradually improved year by year.
